If you have lost a parrot, your chances of finding him are 50/50. Hong Kong is a very dangerous place for a pampered pet bird who doesn’t understand the dangers of predators, traffic, or the occasional typhoon (Click here to view these dangers!). A lost parrot can also be found by someone who would try to sell him for money, or someone who falls in love with him and refuses to return him. However, they do get recovered sometimes. Social media, actual posters, and a finder’s reward do make a big difference. Owners should tag their parrots with an Identity-bracelet that shows their contact info and for the larger parrots, a qualified veterinarian can also inject a microchip to aid in identification.

在香港，大約半數飛失的鸚鵡無法回到主人身邊。對於每日錦衣玉食的寵物鸚鵡來說，「外面」危機四伏。香港原生的獵食者、流浪貓狗、馬路上川流不息的車輛、夏季的颱風等，對於鸚鵡來說都是致命的威脅。（按此詳閱寵物鳥飛失後可能面對的危險）就算僥倖獲救，發現人亦有可能將尋獲的鸚鵡轉售他人，或因為「太喜愛」而拒絕歸還。但即便如此也不要絕望，仍然有不少鸚鵡是能夠回到主人身邊的。善用社交媒體發放資訊；張貼、派發街招；設置懸賞金，都是有助於尋回鸚鵡的好方法。中大型鸚鵡可通過佩戴腳環（可刻上飼主的聯絡方式）或請獸醫為鸚鵡注射芯片的方式來幫助辨認身份。
